Specialist Care for Your Eyes and Vision
Clear vision is something many of us take for granted – until it changes. Our ophthalmology team at Shifa Al Jazeera Hospital is experienced in diagnosing and managing a wide range of conditions affecting the eyes and vision. Ophthalmology is the medical specialty focused on the health of the eye – including its structures, function, and the conditions that can affect sight. Many serious eye conditions develop gradually and without obvious early symptoms – which is why regular eye assessments are so important, even when your vision seems fine. Whether you have noticed a sudden change in your eyesight, have been living with a long-term eye condition, or simply want a routine check-up, our specialists will assess your eyes thoroughly and explain their findings clearly. Vision concerns affect the whole family – and our team is here to support patients of all ages with care that is accessible and transparent.

What to Expect During Your Visit
Eye examinations are thorough but straightforward. Our ophthalmologist will begin by asking about your symptoms, how long you have had them, and whether you have any existing medical conditions such as diabetes or hypertension – both of which can affect eye health. Please bring your current glasses or contact lenses to your appointment if you have them.
A series of non-invasive tests will then be carried out to assess your vision and the health of your eyes. Some tests may involve eye drops that temporarily dilate (widen) your pupils to allow a clearer view of the back of the eye. If this is planned, we will let you know in advance – as your vision may be temporarily blurred for a few hours afterwards, and you may prefer to arrange transport home.
Once all assessments are complete, our specialist will explain their findings to you in plain, clear language. If treatment is needed – whether that is a change in prescription, eye drops, a course of treatment, or referral for a procedure – all options will be discussed fully and transparently. Your family is welcome to join this conversation, because understanding your eye health is the first step towards protecting it.
