The arrival of a new baby is one of life’s most precious moments – and when that baby needs extra care, it can feel frightening and overwhelming. Our neonatology team understands this deeply, and is dedicated to giving every newborn the best possible start to life. Neonatology is the medical specialty focused on the care of newborn infants – particularly those who are premature (born before 37 weeks of pregnancy), have a low birth weight, or are born with medical conditions requiring specialist support. Our experienced neonatologists (newborn specialists) work within our dedicated NICU – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit – a specialist ward equipped to monitor and treat newborns who need close medical attention. We know that having your baby in intensive care is one of the hardest experiences a family can face – our team will keep you informed, involved, and supported at every step. Because parents are the most important part of their baby’s care team.

Conditions We Treat

Our neonatology team provides specialist assessment and care for a wide range of newborn conditions, including:

  • Premature birth – caring for babies born before 37 weeks of pregnancy who need specialist support to grow and develop

What to Expect During Your Visit

From the moment your baby is admitted to our NICU, our neonatology team will carry out a thorough assessment to understand their condition and immediate needs. You will be spoken to directly – in language you understand – about what is happening, what treatment is being given, and why. No medical decision will be made without your knowledge and involvement.

Throughout your baby’s stay, our team will provide daily updates on their progress. We encourage parents to visit and spend as much time as possible with their baby – skin-to-skin contact (also known as kangaroo care) is actively supported in our NICU, as it plays an important role in a baby’s recovery and development. Our nursing team will guide you on how to safely hold, feed, and care for your baby during this time.

When your baby is ready to go home, our team will make sure you leave feeling confident and prepared. You will receive clear guidance on feeding, temperature monitoring, medicines, and follow-up appointments. Our doctors remain available for any concerns after discharge – because our care for your family does not end at the hospital door.
